Twin Set, Glebe
The peaceful, playful and practical Twin Set is an inner-city house enveloped by its garden.
Architecture and landscape work seamlessly creating spaces and experiences throughout the house and garden. Behind the traditional street frontage, the home is orientated around the calm oasis of a central courtyard - building merging with garden.
The central courtyard provides an outdoor extension of the main living spaces; the side courtyards create a variety of spaces for contemplation and food production; the rooftop garden provides a green outlook and softens the new garage addition. Not afraid to be a functional family garden complete with lawn, trampoline, basketball hoop and veggie patch with native bee hive; the garden is also the calm oasis through which the many areas of activity in the home are both connected and screened.
It was fortunate to have a palette of beautiful sandstone blocks from the house’s existing foundations.
Existing site brick and sandstone was stockpiled on site during construction and then reused as hardscape elements: stepping stones, pavement and bench seats. Reusing materials and existing garden components alleviate the need to bring new materials to site.
